can you elaborate on this sentence?

actually, when you set filter in design studio, this is updating the query definition and the filter is passed to source system (eg. BW) and olap processor is profiding the filtered resultset back. Design Studio is an online tool, there is no local filter w/o active backend connection.
But, in case someone is using the "Data Selection", eg in chart or SDK - then the resultset on java stack is containing the part which is visible in the data selection dialog, and the component in browser gets "subset" - but this is not the case for normal filters.
